Tumbeloth

Tumbeloths bond with each other by turning inside out. Sort of, earning trust. Showing off what's inside.

Kensho, The Power of the Dark Crystal #3

Tumbeloths were small creatures that inhabited the catacombs of the Castle of the Crystal. Thurma and Kensho's companion Tumby was of the species.

They were similar in appearance to otters but had shells similar to turtles, and also sported tendrils that could be used to grab objects and even carry larger creatures than themselves to greater heights. Many considered them pests, as they were known to steal valuables due to their liking of shiny objects.[1] They were also known to bond by turning inside out, showing what was inside as a way of earning trust.[1] Kensho was for a short time sentenced to three trine in the catacombs shoveling their dung as punishment for challenging the Lord Commander and the Crystalline Eminence.[2]
