PlotEdit

The heroes of Thra were summoned to the Dream Space by Aughra. One by one, they shared their memories with one another. Deet recalled being attacked by Nurlocs in Domrak before being rescued by Keet. The Vliste-Staba informed her that the Nurlocs were consumed by the Darkening, which was spreading from the Crystal and threatening all of Thra. The Sanctuary Tree urged her to alert the seven Gelfling Clans to the risk the planet was facing.

Rian recalled being on duty at the Castle of the Crystal alongside his girlfriend Mira when they discovered that some Arathim were loose. They pursued the creatures to the Chamber of Life, where Rian witnessed the Skeksis murdering Mira by draining her essence and consuming it. Rian was then discovered by the Skeksis and fled. He found his best friend Gurjin and told him what he had seen. Gurjin revealed that the Skeksis had been spreading lies that Rian had gone mad and murdered Mira. Along with two other members of the Castle Guard, Breg and Alyadon, they made to escape from the Castle. They were ambushed by SkekSil the Chamberlain and Gurjin allowed himself to be captured so that the others could escape.

Gurjin's twin sister Naia and her friend Kylan set out from the Swamp of Sog to locate Rian and return him to the Castle in exchange for Gurjin's freedom. Along the way, they were attacked by Darkended Armaligs and had to fight their way out. They later found Rian in a Podling tavern, where Tavra was also seeking to apprehend him. A fight ensued, after which Rian convinced the others to dreamfast with him, proving his innocence and the Skeksis' villainy. Rian's father, Ordon, arrived and witnessed his son's memories, apologising for not trusting him earlier.

As the heroes made their way through the Endless Forest, they were ambushed by SkekMal the Hunter. Ordon defeated the bloodthirsty Skeksis by knocking them both into a pit of Gobbles, sacrificing his own life in the process. Unfortunately, his sacrifice was in vain, as SkekMal leapt out of the pit and captured Rian.

Brea recalled searching through the library in Ha'rar for a book about the tithing ceremony. However, her efforts left the library in ruins and Tavra warned her that she would be sent to the Order of Lesser Service as punishment.

Once she left the Caves of Grot, Deet set out for Ha'rar and was attacked by a group of Arathim. She was rescued by a Podling named Hup, who vowed to escort her to the city. On their way, they stopped at Stone-in-the-Wood, where they fought off some rude Gelfling who reacted adversely to their presence. They fled the village when the guards arrived to apprehend them.

Tavra, Naia, Kylan, Alyadon and Breg travelled to the Castle. As the others went to rescue Gurjin, Tavra parted ways with them to find out what the Skeksis were up to. They freed Gurjin from his cell and successfully fought their way out of the Castle.

Brea carried out her punishment in the Order of Lesser Service, catching and bathing resistant Podlings. She later escaped by making a deal with one of the Podlings that she would not force them to take a bath if they did not tell anyone that she had run off. She returned to the Citadel where she discovered an underground room containing the sigils of each of the seven clans. She tried to light them in specific orders, but came to the realization that no clan should be ranked above another.

Rian's allies rescued him from the carriage in which he was being held prisoner by SkekSil and together they defeated the Chamberlain, who fled back to the Castle. Brea was awarded a protector, Lore, for determining that all of the clans should be equal. She informed her mother, All-Maudra Mayrin, of her discovery. However, Mayrin was murdered by SkekVar the General when she defied him. Brea's eldest sister Seladon became the new All-Maudra follwoing their mother's death and Brea and her friends were abducted by the Skeksis. They were rescued shortly afterwards by Rian and Lore.

The heroes made for the Crystal Desert to travel to the Circle of the Suns, as they had been instructed to do in a message delivered by Lore. Arriving at the outskirts of the desert, they met Rek'yr of the Dousan Clan, who agreed to help them on their quest once they proved their skill in battle to him. Once they cleansed the desert of Darkened creatures, Rek'yr led them to the Circle of the Suns, where they met SkekGra the Heretic and UrGoh the Wanderer. The duo performed a puppet show in which they revealed that creatures called UrSkeks came to Thra, deceived Aughra and cracked the Crystal, creating the Darkening and splitting the UrSkeks into the Skeksis and the UrRu. They also informed them of the Dual Glaive, which they said was hidden where the Three Suns dare not shine. They stated that the clans must be united if the Skeksis were to be defeated.

SkekMal arrived and attacked, but was confronted by his UrRu counterpart, UrVa the Archer, who warned him to let them go. SkekMal was defeated and fled, but UrVa was badly wounded as a result. He told them to go on and find the Dual Glaive. Meanwhile, SkekVar arrived at Stone-in-the-Wood accompanied by Tavra, who had been taken over by a Threader. She unleashed many more Threaders, which took control of Maudra Fara and the other Gelfing of the Stonewood Clan and forced them to travel to the Castle.

The heroes travelled to the Smerth-Staba to convince the Drenchen Clan to join their cause. SkekSil was in the area and several Gelfling had gone missing, so the heroes went to investigate. They met resistance from Drenchen Gelfling who believed them responsible for the disappearances, but after fighting against them and saving them from a horde of Arathim they convinced them that they were there to help. They found SkekSil and defeated him, driving him out of Sog.

Deet deduced that the Dual Glaive was in the Caves of Grot and led her friends there. Upon arrival, they discovered that many of the Grottan Clan had been taken over by Threaders. They fought their way through the Arathim and located Deet's brother Bobb'N, who was being attacked by Darkened Nurlocs. They rescued him and made for the Sanctuary Tree, which was being consumed by Nurlocs. Before they left, Deet promised the Tree that she would defeat the Darkening. Once they reached the surface, Maudra Argot presented them with one half of the Dual Glaive, informing them that the other half was in Stone-in-the Wood.

The heroes travelled towards Ha'rar and were confronted by rangers who had been sent by Seladon to arrest them and take them to the Citadel. The heroes defeated them and reached the city, where they learned that some Gelfling of the Vapra Clan started a resistance and were imprisoned by Skeksis loyalists led by SkekVar. The heroes snuck into the Citadel through underground tunnels and freed the prisoners. They fought their way through Seladon's Paladins and then faced SkekVar himself, defeating him and driving him out of Ha'rar.

The heroes made for the Sifan Coast, with Alyadon informing them that the blight of the Darkening and the Skeksis' tithes have taken a toll on the smaller fishing villages. Kylan states that the elders of the Sifa Clan remain loyal to the Skeksis, but others may be willing to join their cause. Alyadan informs them that a well-known scholar named Ivo has gone missing and that he may be a useful ally if found. They located him among a shipwreck and saved him from an attack by Darkened creatures. He revealed that he has been sent by Elder Cadia to decipher ancient symbols and promised to share any information he found with them. From the symbols he learned of a secret cave hidden among the rocks on the coast. He led them to the cave and discovered etchings depicting the Three Suns aligned above the Crystal, but could only decipher a single line of text: the Great Conjunction.

At the request of Maudra Seethi, the heroes rescued to missing sailors, Van and Jilly, from a band of pirates. Van and Jilly reveal that they stole the pirates' treasure as their village was in desperate need of it, with much of its wealth lost to the Skeksis' tithings. Once they defeated the pirates, the heroes helped Van and Jilly deliver the treasure to their village, with the duo declaring themselves to be in their debt.

The heroes traveled to Sami Thicket, where Kylan warned them that they would have a hard time convincing the Spriton Clan to join their cause, as they were the clan most lotal to the Skeksis. They were attacked by a group of Gelfling, with one of them claiming them responsible for the death of her brother Bolan, who was a member of the Castle Guard. They assured her that they were not killers and promised to find out what happened to him. They discovered a village under attack from Darkened Podlings and defended it before travelling to the Podling village. They were met by Pombo, a Podling musician who promised to help them if they saved his village. They reached the village and discovered SkekTek the Scientist, who had been experimenting on the Podlings by poisoning their water in an attempt to create an army for the Skeksis. They defeated him and drove him back to the Castle. Pombo played a song that put the other Podlings to sleep and drove the Darkening out of them.

The heroes returned to the Castle and Gurjin led them to the Chamber of Life, where they were attacked by SkekTek's experiments and subdued them by activating their collars. As they travelled through the corridors, they were bewildered to find no guards on patrol. They reached the vaults and discovered the guards' weapons and armor abandoned, concluding that the Skeksis had drained all of them. They discovered that the Stonewood Gelfing had been captured and the Arathim Ascendancy promised to help free them. Breg suggested searching the wilderness for any that managed to escape. They aided two Gelfling, Pinn and Orla, in an attack by Darkened creatures. Pinn and Orla revealed that they barely escaped the Arathim attack on Stone-in-the-Wood and had been hiding in the forest ever since. The heroes escort them safely back to their home.

In the Chamber of Life, SkekSo the Emperor urged SkekTek to revive SkekMal by any means necessary, but SkekTek was yielding no results with Gelfling essence. Aughra entered and informed them that they needed her essence, the essence of Thra itself, which she promised to give them in exchange for releasing the Gelfling. SkekSo agreed and ordered SkekVar to escort the Gelfling from the Castle. Aughra's essence failed to revive SkekMal, but SkekSo still considered it a victory, as there was now nobody left who could stop them.

Brea met up with Tavra and they prepared to free the captive Gelfling, but SkekSil and SkekVar arrived to stop them. They freed the Gelfling from their cells and shut the prison gates to prevent the Skeksis from pursuing them. Brea, Tavra and Seladon confronted SkekVar in the Crystal Chamber with the aid of the Arathim. They reached the exit, but Tavra went back to kill SkekVar and avenge their mother. SkekVar begged for his life, but before Tavra could deliver the killing blow, SkekSil entered the Chamber and killed her. Devastated at the loss of their sister, Brea and Seladon fled the Castle.

The heroes gathered in Stone-in-the-Wood and found the other half of the Dual Glaive in the Crucible. Rian completed the weapon and the flames turned blue. Maudra Argot and Deet urged him to address all of the Gelfling of Thra and he called upon them to join him at Stone-in-the-Wood so that they could unite and rise up against the Skeksis. SkekSo interrupted the message and vowed to crush their revellion, to which Rian challenged him and the other Skeksis to meet them in battle.

The Skeksis descended upon Stone-in-the-Wood and SkekVar confronted the heroes. Once they defeated him, he ordered Rian to finish him off with the Dual Glaive. Rian refused to do this, proclaiming that he was not a killer, and he and his allies left the wounded General behind. SkekVar was then found by SkekSil, whom he begged for help. SkekSil instead murdered him, claiming his place as SkekSo's most trusted advisor.

To the surprise of everyone, SkekMal had returned from the dead and descended on the battlefield. As he was now more powerful than ever, the heroes were unable to defeat him. However, they were saved when UrVa sacrificed himself by leaping from the top of the Circle of the Suns, killing both himself and SkekMal.

The heroes had bested his mightiest warriors and went to face the Emperor himself. SkekSo was accompanied by SkekSil and SkekTek, the former of whom advised him that they should flee as the Gelfling were too many. SkekSo declared that he would win at any cost and promised to unleash the true power of the Darkening upon his enemies. United against their common enemy, the heroes defeated SkekSo and caused the Skeksis to retreat back to the Castle.

Brea found the Shard of the Division within the hilt of the Dual Glaive. Rian watched as Deet, who became infected with the Darkening during the battle with SkekSo, disappeared into the Endless Forest. Aughra told the heroes that the many have become one and the victory belonged to all of them. She stated that there was hope for the future, but warned them to take care as hope is fragile, like a Crystal Shard.
