Nurloc

Nurlocs were large, peaceful worm-like creatures native to the caves of Grot. They had long, ridged bodies perfectly adapted for navigating caverns. The number of eyes and body segments varied with age, with fully grown specimens sporting the most.[1] They primarily fed on Glow Moss,[2] and thus had a bioluminescent glow when well fed.[1] Their main predators were Z'nid Birds,[3] which could kill multiple Nurlocs in a single attack.[4]

They had formed a symbiotic relationship with the Grottan Clan, who farmed them for their milk, from which they made cheese, a staple of the Grottan diet. When a Nurloc died, its skin was used to make a leather renowned for its softness.[1] A further service Nurlocs provided to the Grottans was loosening soil and rock while they dug, and shed valuable materials such as scales, skin and fur, which would be used for clothing, ornamentation and instruments.[5] The skin of their rumps was particularly prized, as it produced the softest leather.[6] Baby Nurlocs were served roasted in Skeksis banquets.[7]

An aquatic variant existed, whose reedy antlers were used in fashioning flutes.[5]
