How The Gelfling Maid Got Her Wings

How The Gelfling Maid Got Her Wings was a Gelfling story that detailed how wings of female Gelfling were received. There were many variations of how the wings came to be: from a girl plucking a cloud from the sky and knitted about her shoulders or how a pretty lass touched her hands to a rock and made a wish for crystalline wings. A darker tale was recounted by a Gelfling traveler named Harle, who claimed his story to be true and witnessed by his great grandmother.[1]

Harle's story[]

There was once a Gelfling girl who lived in a village at the far end of the Gelfling lands. The village was plagued by many dangers leaving without parents or elders. The children that survived were always in danger of something, from a Rakkida to treacherous waters. Growing weak from the labors in keeping them safe, the maiden sent to seek the aid of Aughra. Though the maiden only sought the crone's help, Aughra took two Cragraptor feathers and stabbed them into their girl's shoulders sewing them to the bone. Having wing snow the maiden spread them out feeling the energies of the Crystal having been forged a connection between her blood and the blood of Thra. The maiden flew home to her people, and using her new power rained stones on intruders. Her clan marveled at her story and wings as she now could watch over them all. The maiden eventually found a mate and had a daughter with wings who had her own daughter, and so on. The gift of Aughra passed through the ages always to the daughters of Gelfling.
