The Darkening is pure energy. It cannot be destroyed. […] Like all energy, it can only be transferred, moved!

Darkening absorption was the ability to consciously absorb the Darkening without immediately succumbing to its maddening effects.

History[]

This ability was first used by the Great Trees during the Age of Division to stop the Darkening from destroying all of Thra and possibly Mithra, but over time the Darkening overcame the their efforts.[2]

The Scepter of Office absorbing the Darkening

SkekSo, meanwhile, discovered the Darkening and began experimenting on it in secret, using a miniature crystal placed on the Scepter of Office to absorb its rays in the hope of later wielding it as a weapon.[3]

Deet was granted the ability to absorb and unleash the Darkening by Vliste-Staba in its final moments,[1] which she used to deadly effect during the Second Battle of Stone-in-the-Wood, deflecting the Darkening rays launched by skekSo and killing skekLach.[4]

During the Age of Power, Kensho gained the ability[5] and attempted to heal a horde of Gelfling infected by Skeksis artifacts, but found the ordeal too much to bear.[6] He later led the horde to the Crystal, which healed all the darkened Gelfling.[7]
